Surgical Short Stay Unit

The unit provides care for the pre and post-operative patient.

The unit provides care for minor injuries needing surgical intervention or elective surgical procedures. The hours of operation are 24 hours 5 days a week, closing on a Saturday afternoon until the following Monday morning, with a capacity of 23 beds.

Post-operative patients are aimed to be discharged during a 23 hour admission facilitated by Criteria Led Discharge. Patients are admitted under specific surgical teams.

  • ENT
  • Urology
  • Gynaecological
  • Orthopaedic
  • Plastics
  • Maxilliofacial
  • Ophthalmology
  • Gastrointestinal
  • Gastroenterology.

The prime function of Short Stay Surgical inpatient unit is to provide quality-nursing care to short stay pre and post-operative patients.

It also has two subsidiary functions including the provision of health care to patients with acute surgical conditions and surgical injuries and to provide health care, advice and provide post-surgery education for patients with a large range of surgical conditions/operations.
