Multiplex has been appointed to deliver the new 600-bed Coomera Hospital, marking a major milestone in providing more hospital capacity for the rapidly growing northern Gold Coast.
Major foundation works are now underway, including concrete pours to support the expanded footprint, alongside retaining works, remodelling of existing structures and bulk earthworks.
Multiplex will deliver the major infrastructure project, with civil works, construction of retaining walls, permanent stormwater management tanks and works on the multi-storey car park expected to start from next month.
Clinical Director of Emergency Care Services at Gold Coast University Hospital Dr Hayley Frieslich said the hospital would bring a broad range of services closer to the community.
“For patients across the northern Gold Coast, it will bring world-class, patient-centered care closer to home and help keep communities together, which is a focus for Gold Coast Health,” Dr Frieslich said.
Deputy Director-General of Health Infrastructure Queensland Blake Lepper said the expanded hospital would help meet future demand across the region.
“The Coomera Hospital will ensure we have the capacity to deliver the health services the Gold Coast needs,” Blake said.
Gold Coast Health Executive Director of Infrastructure Planning, Delivery and Commissioning and long-time Gold Coast resident Richard Christensen said he was pleased to be part of a major project that would improve healthcare delivery for the community.
“The new hospital will provide more services for the Coomera community and the northern Gold Coast corridor – something we have been working towards for some time,” Richard said.
The hospital will be delivered in stages from 2028, starting with the car park and progressing through to the delivery of all 600 beds by 2032.

The Coomera Hospital forms part of the Hospital Rescue Plan, which will deliver more than 2,600 additional beds, three new hospitals and major expansions at 10 hospitals across Queensland.
On the Gold Coast, 110 new hospital beds have already been delivered at Gold Coast University Hospital, and 828 additional frontline health workers have been added.
Bringing planned hospital and specialist services together in one location will improve access to care and help ease pressure across the wider Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service.
